Cutting Rebates 3/4" X 3/8"
The Dado set will tear out as it exits the stock from the back.
Kei Wing elects to place a sacrificial piece of pine behind the cut to provide zero clearance and avoid tear out.
Watch Kei Wing support the long side of his board with the miter fence while firmly pressing it against the green sacrificial fence where he buried the dado set.
| Perfect! the tear out is on the sacrificial and not the tool box front. |
Good thing we checked!
Obviously accurate machining is our goal. But even after all featheboards how perfect are we humans? Measuring our actual machining of rebates is a must in order to achieve out overall toolbox depth of 10 inches. Here a rebate off by 1/64th is doubled because there are two sides. Therefore the sides must be adjusted by 1/32 of an inch.
This only took me 5 minutes because I used someone else's set-up and it was already perfect! Just a little test piece from my stock to make sure it was right, and I was good to go. Thanks Heidi, Chachi, and Alessandro for the great set-up!
ReplyDeleteGlad it worked for you, Nicole! With set up it took closer to 25 minutes.
